Mallory Myers of Evans, Ga., is one of the quicker rising junior point guards in the Peach State.
Vitals
Name: Mallory Myers Grad Year: 2015 Location: Evans, Ga. School: Greenbriar HS Current Position: PG Projected Position: PG
Strengths
Myers brings a true distributing mindset to the point guard position. A left-handed prospect, Myers has both speed and skill. A willing defender, her game puts us in the mind of class of 2014 prospect Morgan William of Birmingham, Ala. Like William, Myers lacks the prototypical size of a college point guard but makes up for that by producing time and time again. At the PeachStateBasketball.com Spring Showdown in March, she showed that she can knock down the open jump shot as well. Adding that weapon to her game will force opposing defenders to close out on the ball reversal leaving Myers with quality driving lanes to create shot opportunities for herself and her teammates.
Area To Improve
Going forward, Myers will have to continue to work on her ability to finish plays in the midrange. At the college level the paint will be clogged up with multiple 6-foot-plus post players. Regardless of their foot speed, point guards have a difficult time getting all the way to the rim to finish plays. A mid-range pull-up will aid Myers in creating more quality looks for herself after she beats her primary defender. If the second line post defender helps up the lane, Myers is more than good enough to make the easy dump off pass to her teammate for a score.
The Bottom Line
With her foot speed and athleticism, Myers is the type of point guard who brings consistent energy to a team. That skill set will allow her to be able to make an impact on a roster from day one of her college career. Continuing to gain strength and experience against top level guards will make Myers that much tougher to handle on either end of the hardwood.
