The No. 2 overall prospect in the class of 2015, Katie Lou Samuelson of Fullerton, Calif., has narrowed her school list down to five schools. We reported on Twitter this past week her finalists are Connecticut, Kentucky, Notre Dame, Stanford, and UCLA.

Samuelson, whose perimeter shooting ability has made her one of the country’s most coveted prospects, has two sisters who currently attend Stanford, Bonnie (junior) and Karlie (freshman). Ultimately the school that secures a verbal pledge, and in time a signed letter of intent, from the 6-foot-3 forward, will get one of the better scorers in the country and a player that seems to have that “it” factor that is so often hard to find.

As of now Samuelson is currently behind 5-9 combo guard Asia Durr of Douglasville, Ga., in the 2015 ELITE 60 rankings. Look for Durr, Samuelson and maybe a handful of other prospects to compete this spring and summer for the top overall spot in the class.

With the star power of both Samuelson and Durr the 2015 class seems to compare favorably to the star power of the 2014 class with players like Kelsey Mitchell and Aj’a Wilson sitting at the top of the ELITE 150.

Rounding out the top five in the class of 2015 is No. 3 Te’a Cooper of Powder Springs, Ga., No. 4 Naphessa Collier of O’Fallon, Mo., and No. 5 Jessica Shepard of Lincoln, Neb.

AROUND THE RIM

3-Star Pitts to Texas State: We saw 6-2 forward TiArra Pitts of Austin, Texas, play quality basketball last spring before hurting her knee and ultimately missing a majority of the summer basketball circuit and all of her senior high school season. Pitts is a skilled forward with the ability to be effective playing inside and outside. As a 2014 prospect, the three-star forward is a quality pick up for Texas State and its coaching staff.

3- Star Pearson to Charlotte: This year Atlantic 10 is one of the more competitive conferences in the country with a number of quality teams competing throughout the league, making recruiting paramount. This week Charlotte was able to score a verbal commitment from a class of 2015 post, Dara Pearson of Wilmoth, Va. Pearson will give the 49ers size and depth across the front line.

3-Star Tiggs to Eastern Michigan: A 6-0 forward, Chavon Tiggs of Flint, Mich., made a verbal pledge to play her college basketball at Eastern Michigan this week. Tiggs is an athletic post with a developing skill set that should be able to carve out a nice niche at the Mid American Conference school.
