As the July viewing period approaches, several prospects have decided to end their recruiting journey early and focus just on basketball next month. This is a trend we see each and every year.

No. 30 CAMARA TO KENTUCKY

Early this week Kentucky secured a verbal commitment from the No. 30 player in the ELITE 100, Batouly Camara of New York, N.Y. Camara, who picked Kentucky over Connecticut, is an athletic 6-foot-3 power forward who should be able to give Kentucky depth and versatility across its frontline.

Camara, who picked Kentucky because of her relationship with the coaching staff in addition to her comfort with the players on the current team, was an invite to the U18 USA Basketball trials last month in Colorado Springs, Colo. The addition of Camara to Kentucky’s 2015 class gives the Wildcats their third player in the class and their first interior player. Camara will be joined by point guard Morgan Rich of Scottsville, Ky., and wing Maci Morris of Pineville, Ky., when she arrives in Lexington.

Both Morris and Rich are four-star guards who bring something different to the table than what Kentucky has in those positions right now. Morris is a big guard who can shoot the ball off the catch and the dribble. Rich is more of a cerebral point guard who can run a team and distribute the basketball. Neither player is the elite perimeter defender that Kentucky has had at the guard spot the last few seasons.

Adding an athletic post like Camara will give Kentucky a nice balance to this class as they are adding a core of talent to their roster. This isn’t likely the end for the Wildcats in the 2015 class. They are on the list for the No. 1 overall prospect, Asia Durr, and are looking at bringing in one more dynamic scorer.

KU LANDS PG OF THE FUTURE

Kansas picked up a verbal commitment from four-star guard Jayde Christopher of Federal Way, Wash., who is ranked in the ELITE 100. Read more about it here.

AROUND THE RIM

No. 61 Mosley to California: Coming off an impressive April evaluation period, 5-11 wing MaAne Mosley of Oakland, Calif., made a verbal pledge to California last week during the Bears’ elite camp. Mosely is a good athlete who should be able to play multiple positions for Cal. Her activity level and ability to produce without dominating the ball should allow her to compete for playing time as her career progresses. Mosley is the third member of the 2015 class to make a verbal pledge to California. She joins No. 40 Kristine Anigwe of Phoenix, Ariz., and four-star guard Breanna Cavanaugh of Hackettstown, N.J.

4-Star Romano to Stanford: Stanford added more perimeter shooting to its roster with the addition of Alexa Romano of Albuquerque, N.M. Romano is one of the better perimeter shooters in the country and has a knack for stroking the nets from deep. At 5-10 and with a slender build, it will be important for Romano to build strength and add to her frame but her ability to shoot the basketball and stretch the floor is undeniable and she will surely be asked to play that role in Palo Alto. Romano is the first member of the class of 2015 to give a verbal pledge to the PAC-12 school.

No. 77 Floyd to Xavier: Xavier has a centerpiece to build around as Tierra Floyd of Toledo, Ohio, made a verbal pledge this week. Floyd is a versatile forward who can handle the ball on the perimeter or score around the rim. At Xavier she will be asked to do both as she has the potential to carry a high volume of their offensive load throughout her career. Floyd is the first member of the class of 2015 to give a verbal pledge to Xavier.

3-Star Lawson to Belmont:Paris Lawson of Murfreesboro, Tenn., made a verbal commitment to Belmont this week after an unofficial visit to the local school. Lawson is a crafty playmaker who can fill up a stat sheet. She has the ability to make an impact on both sides of the ball at Belmont as she is a good athlete with the ability to get into the passing lanes and create turnovers. Lawson is Belmont’s first verbal commitment for the class of 2015 but the Bruins did secure a priority transfer this spring landing Kylee Smith from Vanderbilt.

3-Star Daley To Penn: Coming off winning the league and making an NCAA tournament appearance, Pennsylvania has hit the recruiting trail hard this Spring. The Quakers have secured verbal commitments from two quality Ivy League prospects in Jameira Johnson of Tamytown, Md., and Kristen Daley of Sharon, Mass. This week it was Daley that made the verbal pledge to the Ivy League school. Daley is a versatile forward with the ability to be a match-up nightmare in the Ivy League. At 5-11 she has the size to play inside and the skill to play on the perimeter.
