Overall it has been an incredibly quiet fall as far as recruiting news goes. The 2014 class has allowed its chips to fall into place quickly and somewhat quietly and as we approach signing day there aren’t a ton of questions still unanswered.

UCLA holds the No. 1 position in the current recruiting class rankings with only Connecticut having a solid chance at overtaking them. South Carolina, and Tennessee could both make major leaps into the top five as they still have important prospects on the hook as well.

Three uncommitted players will play a major impact on any of these schools making jumps heading into signing day, No. 2 Aj’a Wilson of Columbia, S.C., No. 14 Jatarie White of Charlotte, N.C., and international prospect Kia Nurse of Hamilton, Ontario. Nurse and Wilson are still considering Connecticut while all three, Wilson, White, and Nurse, still have Tennessee on their respective lists.

South Carolina’s Recruiting Run

This week South Carolina scored another piece in its ascension towards the top of the class rankings after earning a verbal commitment from No. 105 Doniyah Cliney of Newark, N.J. Adding a talented wing like Cliney a week after securing a verbal commitment from the No. 18 player in the class, Bianca Cuevas of Brooklyn, N.Y., gives South Carolina coach Dawn Staley and her staff two ELITE 150 recruits and two four-star rated perimeter players to infuse to their backcourt rotation. With two more possible additions still undecided, a potential South Carolina recruiting class of Cuevas, Cliney, Wilson, and White would be a benchmark class for South Carolina and one of the best groups in the country.

South Florida Goes International

South Florida turned to Portugal to add talent to their 2014 recruiting class. Laura Ferreira of Lisboa, Portugal gave a verbal pledge to the American Athletic Conference school and should be able to play multiple backcourt positions during her career in Tampa, which will be begin next fall. Ferreira averaged just over eight points a game and four rebounds a game during the European U18 Championships this summer with her highest scoring performance being 22 points in a matchup against the Slovak Republic. She’s a slashing style of guard who should benefit from USF coach Jose Fernandez’s up-tempo style of play.
