Linney Picks Charlotte

Linney Picks Charlotte

Class of 2017 guard Mariah Linney of Moncks Corner, South Carolina has made a verbal pledge to the University of North Carolina-Charlotte.  Linney, a four-star guard, picked the Conference USA school over a number of programs including Tennessee-Chattanooga, North Florida, Albany, Temple, James Madison, and Clemson.

This summer Linney emerged as one of the most talented scorers in the country as she consistently showed the ability to create and make shots.  Although she is on the smaller side at 5-foot-8, Linney’s ability to play in one on one situations, attack the rim off the bounce, and make shots from the perimeter should allow her to be effective whether she is playing on the wing or at the point.

For Charlotte, Linney could be an impactful addition to an already loaded Charlotte backcourt. With her versatility as a combo guard and ability to score the ball at all three levels, Linney will allow UNCC coach Cara Consuegra and her staff a tremendous amount of flexibility in how they use her.

"Linney's game is super smooth. She is an efficient scorer mainly off of jumpers based on her play here," Brandon Clay of ProspectsNation.com said. Her shot is both compact and quick. Linney handles well enough to play both backcourt spots. That said, scoring is hard to find so running her off of screens and off ball movement might be her best usage at the collegiate level.
